About Us

Beads n' Stitches was started in April 2002 out of frustration of the owner Maryann not being able to find the items needed for her projects. Maryann who has done craft shows for many years, displaying her custom jewelry and wanted to settle down and get away from the shows. She decided she wanted a little bead store on Long Island where she could have a table to sit at and design her creations all day. Well needless to say the word got out that a bead store had arrived and some days Maryann wonders what happened to the little bead store she wanted.

Beads n' Stitches in 2003 expanded by taking over a second store front next door almost doubling its space due to the demand of her customers. Classes were added not long after opening so Maryann could share her knowledge with the beginners to beading. The primary focus of the store is the work area, where customers can sit and design their jewelry utilizing the tools of the store. This approach has allowed customers to gain friendships and plan many gatherings where they can compare their designs and offer encouragement. The store also offers a knowledgeable staff to assist the novice as well as the veteran jewelry maker.

To date Beads n' Stitches has customers coming not only from all over Long Island but from all over the Tri-State area.  Beads n' Stitches is proud to say that they offer the largest selection of Swarvoski crystals, Delica beads, jewelry making supplies, strands and cross-stitch items on Long Island.

In 2004 Beads n' Stitches expanded again to serve its customers and offer items for sale on their new web store. This web store is expected to also expand over the next few years to offer its customers options for purchasing the products needed to complete their designs without having to come into the store.

In 2005 Beads n' Stitches continues the tradition of customer relations by expanding its line of items. Additional seed bead lines have been added at the request of customers. Our line of crystal strands has been expanded as has the semi-precious stones. More Sterling Silver items are now being carried to give your creations that professional touch. The direction is now towards expanding and improving on the WEB Site and WEB STORE. This focus is due to the ever increasing lack of space in the store for additional items. We are simply running out of room in the bead store to display things to sell which will push the decision on moving again into bigger space to allow greater offerings to customers in merchandise as well as classes.

Starting in 2006 the hunt was on for a bigger space. Maryann was looking for something very specific, a space that was close enough to major arteries to allow customers easy access. She looked at hundreds of spaces while trying to decide if she wanted to close the original store for a single larger store. While looking she talked to various customers getting their opinions. With her daughter Amanda stepping up to take over the Bellmore store her decision was made that a second store was the way to go.

In early 2007 her hunt for a space ended when she found the location in Hicksville. This location with easy access to major arteries will allow the current customers as well as new customers from the North Shore and the East End to visit. In May 2007 Beads n' Stitches launched its mega store on Rt 107 in Hicksville with 4 times the floor space as the original Bellmore store. This allowed Maryann to bring in more specialized items that the customers have been asking for.  With the addition of the new store she had to make an effort to find qualified employees that could help her promote the stature of customer service that she has maintained so well. She has met that goal and now has over a dozen employees to assist and guide the seasoned as well as the beginners to beading.

Beads n' Stitches thanks all its loyal customers and looks to be able to continue the level of service the company name has been known for many years to come.
